We aim to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials; as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local community. This is achieved by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law, and guided by adult leadership.
Our new pavilion will enhance Scouting in Ightham village, as it will provide a custom made meeting point for all our young people. In the future it will give us the chance to expand our group by starting a Network Unit in Ightham, which would provide for young people aged 18-25. The local Explorer Unit (age 14 -18) also requires a larger meeting facility and the new building in Ightham would provide this.
The pavillion will greatly increase the number of indoor activities we are able to provide for our existing Beaver Colony, Cub pack, Scout troop and Explorer Unit. There will be more space for activities and more storage space for equipment. The increased storage will also give us the chance to provide more equipment on our annual camps as we will be able to store it when not in use.
Another facet of Scouting in Ightham is our Young Leader programme. Many of our Scouts wish to come back as Young Leaders once they move into Explorers. At the moment we do not have a big enough group to accommodate all of the young people wishing to become Young Leaders. With increased space, in the form of a new building, we would be able to increase the number of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, meaning we could take on more Young Leaders. We feel that it is essential for anyone wishing to become a Young Leader to be able to do so, as they are the future leaders of the Scout Association and will provide Scouting for future generations of young people in Ightham and the surrounding villages.
